Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement.

This statement outlines NUYU Academy Ltd’s commitment to combating modern slavery and human trafficking, in compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Policy Commitment:

Modern slavery encompasses servitude, forced or compulsory labour, and human trafficking, which involve the deprivation of liberty for exploitation.

NUYU Academy Ltd is committed to:

•Preventing opportunities for modern slavery within its business or supply chain.

•Conducting business in a professional, ethical, and transparent manner.

•Protecting staff and workers from any form of modern slavery, human trafficking, or similar human rights abuses.

Steps for Prevention

NUYU Academy Ltd ensures:

  1. Transparency in business operations and supply chains.

  2. High standards from contractors, suppliers, and business partners.

  3. Immediate investigation and guidance for any supplier or partner found engaging in unacceptable practices.

  4. Reporting non-compliant suppliers to appropriate authorities and ceasing trade with them.

Processes for Managing Risk

To assess and mitigate risks of modern slavery, we:

  • Identify and assess risks in new and existing staff or business partnerships.

  • Protect whistle-blowers.

  • Ensure all staff have a written contract of employment.

  • Verify legal work eligibility for all staff in the UK.

  • Inform new recruits of their statutory rights, including sick pay, holiday pay, and other benefits.

  • Provide salaries that meet or exceed the National Living Wage and ensure apprentices receive at least the National Minimum Wage for Apprenticeships.

While we have not identified significant risks in our supply chain, we remain vigilant.

Training and Awareness

To ensure understanding of modern slavery risks:

  • Staff undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training on modern slavery.

Identifying Slavery

Victims may not recognise their exploitation. Signs include:

  • Lack of possession of passports or identification.

  • Acting under the influence or instruction of someone else.

  • Allowing others to speak on their behalf.

  • Being dropped off and collected from work.

  • Withdrawn, frightened demeanour, or limited social interaction.

  • Inability to contact friends or family freely.

This list is not exhaustive, and displaying indicators does not always confirm victimhood.

Reporting Slavery

  • If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.

  • For non-urgent concerns, notify the Human Resources Manager to decide a course of action, including potential Police involvement.

  • Be cautious to ensure reporting does not put victims at further risk.

NUYU Academy Ltd remains committed to identifying and eradicating modern slavery

from its operations and supply chains.
